What side of the road do you ride on? |
We ride on the left hand side of the road in Australia and each day before we commence our ride we re-emphasise this in our briefing session. Also, we have a constant reminder notice on the instrument panel as back up! |
Will pillion passengers be allowed on the tour? |
Yes, pillion passengers are most welcome to join the tour. |
Why do I have to wear a helmet? |
It is the law in Australia. Motorcyclists have to wear a helmet at all times. You will be fined $AUD150 if you are caught
not wearing a helmet. The helmet must also be an approved Australian Standard AS 1698 helmet. |
I don’t have a helmet. Can I hire one from you or do I have to buy one? |
We provide you with a helmet as part of the package. A helmet is a very personal safety comfort item that must fit snugly and securely to mould to the shape of your head. We need to know in advance your head size and your preference for an open face helmet or a full visor helmet. If you choose an open face helmet you need to wear impact resistant sunglasses or prescription glasses. |
Does my US helmet meet Australian legal safety standards? |
Technically unless your helmet has a visible Australian Standard AS1698 certified sticker on it your helmet will be deemed illegal.
You could be fined. It is better for you to wear one of our helmets to be on the safe side. |
What riding gear should I bring with me? |
We believe you will feel more comfortable in your own gear. So bring your riding jacket, pants, boots and gloves. We supply the helmet. Remember motorcycle clothing is designed for safety and protection. We do not recommend shorts and T-shirts because they offer you no protection. |
Apart from riding gear what else should I bring with me? |
Think smart casual wear, think light and think warm weather! Most of the time the weather will be warm with fine sunny days and mild nights. Your wardrobe should include cotton pants, shorts, short sleeve shirts and a sweater. There are no formal evenings that require jackets and collar and tie. |
Where will my luggage be stored while I am on tour? |
Your luggage will be with you daily as it will be carried in our support vehicle. |
Can you cater for special dietary requirements? |
Of course. We just need to know in advance. If you have a religious dietary requirement or are allergic to any foods please let us know. |
Will I be able to obtain repeats for my prescribed medication? |
This should be no problem. Make sure you have scrips from your doctor. There is a pharmacist in every township
we will visit. To be on the safe side bring ample supplies with you. |
Not at all. You can ride pillion with one of our crew or we will match you up with one of the other tourists. |
Will my cell phone work in Australia? |
Yes, it should. But before you leave home ask your service provider to switch to the Australian international roam mode. |
Will my US motorcycle licence be valid in Australia? |
Yes, providing it is current. |
Do you impose any riding conditions on your tours? |
Yes. You must be aged over 25 if you are the driver and you must have held your motorcycle license for a minimum of two years. These conditions are imposed by our insurance provider. |
What is the speed limit in Australia? |
It varies from 60 kph (approx 35 mph) in towns and cities to 100 kph (approx 60 mph) on the open highways. The speedo on your Harley-Davidson is calibrated in kilometres per hour. Police are tough on motorcyclists who exceed these limits and impose heavy penalties. Just remember we are on a cruising vacation not a racing vacation! |
What is your policy about the consumption of alcohol during the day? |
Very simple. Until we finish riding for the day the consumption of alcohol will not be permitted. Australian police are very strict about drink driving and conduct random breath tests. If you register over .05% of alcohol in your system your license could be taken away as well as you receiving a substantial fine. Therefore to play safe it is better to wait until we can relax at the end of the day to enjoy a drink. Also be mindful that police make random breath tests in the mornings so if you have had a big night out the night before it is possible you could be over the limit. If you want to be sure of your condition we will have a breathalyzer with us and can run a test. If you are over the limit we would not let you ride until later in the day. |
What other costs will I incur over and above the package fee? |
Only personal expenses such as hotel room service, mini bar and telephone calls from your room plus whatever you spend on souvenirs. Although you will be pre-booked, when you check in to the hotel/motel you will be required to have your credit card swiped to meet any expenses you may incur. |
Will I have to pay a bond for the motorcycle? |
Yes. As is the normal practice when renting a motor vehicle anywhere in the world your credit card will be swiped for the amount of $AUD 2,500. This is fully refundable when the bike is returned in the same condition you received it. |
Can I arrive ahead of the tour or stay longer than the tour dates? |
Yes. All you have to do is advise us in advance. Obviously you will have to meet all hotel accommodation and other expenses you incur outside the tour dates. |
Can you arrange helicopter or private jet charters for me? |
Yes. All we require is advance notice of when and where you would like to go while you are in Australia and we will arrange it accordingly. |
Will you be providing an email service during the tour? |
Yes. We will have a laptop computer and printer with us at all times to dispatch and/or receive and print out messages for you. Just tell your family and/or business associates you can be contacted on info@gamt.com.au |
Do you plan to publicise the tour? |
Yes. But, none of your personal details will be released to the media without your prior consent. |
Can you provide personal security? |
Yes. Even though Australia is a safe location we recognise some people will feel more comfortable knowing they have a trained professional nearby who is capable of handling any kind of emergency. Obviously this would be an additional cost. |
How many people will be on each tour? |
Each tour is restricted to no more than 20 participants including pillion riders to ensure there is greater all-round comfort. |
